Thursday, April 23, 2009
Crowne Plaza Hotel, West Palm Beach
Mistress of Ceremonies - AnEta Sewell
Thank you to all of you who made the thirteenth annual One Child At A Time luncheon another terrific success.
Thank you to all of the members who showed their support by attending the luncheon. Also, a deep thanks to those agencies who participated in the luncheon by recognizing a Child Advocate of their organization. 19 presenting agencies showcased unique strengths and talents of their most dedicated volunteers and staff. It was truly inspiring to hear all of the good work happening for children in our community.
Nyasha, Casey, Hazel, Seth, Angela, and I am sure there were a few others. Thank you for taking on hosting and registration duties. You managed the overly complicated system I created with finesse and precision. J I heard that not one person had to wait in line to register! We were able to quickly and effectively seat 215 people by noon. Success! A special thanks to Hazel who sat at the registration table while the rest of us were enjoying our chicken marsala inside. Don’t worry, folks, she had some food, but it was a huge relief to know that our late coming stragglers had a smiling face to greet them.
Thanks to Eva and Chris for organizing the scholarship process this year. The stories and triumphs of the winners was truly moving. What an amazing opportunity to help the coalition achieve its mission. I cannot think of a better investment of funds than in the future of our youth.
Jeannie, the Children’s Art Auction was terrific! The artwork was very professional and raised $185.00 for the Turn Toward the Future Scholarship fund. Congratulations.
Bennie, the afterschool students truly outdid themselves this year. The centerpieces were incredible! Each was so unique, I could almost picture the kids working on them. They were thoughtful and beautiful. Please let the kids know that they raised over $178.00 for the Foster Youth Project fund. This fund will allow foster youth opportunities to participate in activities that most youth take for granted, like sports, clubs, field trips, and prom.
Thank you to the board of the coalition for their patience as we figured out how to navigate planning a luncheon with the new financial procedures. And thank you to Jennifer Melvin, President, for her support throughout the planning overall. You represented us very well on the podium and made us all proud.
And, of course, thanks to Jack. He made sure we had everything we needed for the event. Every brochure, bid sheet, program… everything! It would never, not this year or any other year, have happened without him. Although I am sure he would disagree! Humble, thorough, and forever the biggest child advocate ever known.
Again, thank you to everyone that made this happen.
What an amazing collaborative effort! Now, who wants to chair Number 14!
